About

Midhurst Forge provides a mix of traditional and modern metalworking services such as forgework, welding, and fabrication in various metals, most commonly in steel but also in copper, brass and bronze.

Metal finish on forged products can be natural (rust) as per the flower pot stands shown here, standard weatherproof paint, or high quality grit blasted then zinc coated and finally powder coated for maximum durability. The gate and bench shown in these pictures are 20 years old and have had the high quality finish and show no sign of rust despite being outside for all of that time with no maintenance.

Some details from the bench…….

As well as traditional forgework we can provide utilitarian designs such as the gate below, which from the outside of the property looks like a fixed fence but it opens up to provide good access.

Heritage and Ironwork Restoration.

Old buildings frequently require ironwork restoration, repair or replacement. This can be achieved in a number of ways, always making sure that the final result stays true to the original craftsmanship and principles of preservation. If your planning officer insists that your listed building has certain types of ironwork then give me a call, it may be easier than you think.

Artwork.

If you would like an artistic and decorative piece for your house or garden or a gift for a friend then all you need to do is provide a rough sketch with a dimension or two and leave the rest to me!

And now for something completely different……….

Gongs come in many shapes and sizes, here is one in stainless steel and another in the more traditional material of bronze, affectionately known among its many users in London as the Medusa gong. The bronze Medusa gong makes the most fantastic sounds and has found itself in high demand for traditional music and special effect sounds in many films and soundtracks; the picture shows it at the famous Abbey Road studio and it is also used at the Air Lyndhurst studio. The Medusa gong has been used in the music of many films including Mission Impossible, Skyfall, The Revenant, and Early Man to name just a few. All the gongs are unique shapes and sound great.

Special tools……..

The Viking style axe shown below was made for use in re-enactment battles, hence the blunt edge to avoid injuries!
